Sorry I overlooked this request. This should be on the "Public Forum" board.

As Historian and Website caretaker, I have only been in touch with a few men who served with the 50th when their designation was "ARB" (Armored Rifle Battalion)...basically in the 1950s.

I myself joined the 1st of the 50th (Charlie Company) in December of 1965 as part of the first of three BCT training cycles conducted by the battalion.

Your post requested men who served in the "ARB" designation from 1961 to 1964. The transition to 1st Bn (Mechanized), 50th Infantry came (officially) on July 1, 1963:

On July 1st, 1963, the 1st and 2nd Battalions were reorganized and redesignated as the 1st and 2nd Battalions (Mechanized), 50th Infantry.

Many of our cadre in late 1965 and early 1966 had been with the unit since 1963...and I do not recall any reference to the ARB designation...but I was a lowly private at the time.

Through an odd twist of assignments (Some would call it fate) I ended up staying with the 1/50th for nearly my entire 3 year enlistment. It turned out to be an important characteristic in my future position as Historian for the 50th Infantry Association.
