Norm initially entered the U.S. Army  in December of 1963 and served in the 7th Infantry Division (Unit Patch to the left of Norm's photo above) with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry (Unit Crest to the right of Norm's Photo above) in Korea before being deployed to South Vietnam for a first tour as an 11 Bravo "Infantryman". We are uncertain as to where he served during his first tour in Vietnam, but his 3 year enlistment was completed and he returned home in November of 1966. Norm re-enlisted in May of 1967 and joined the 1st Battalion (Mechanized), 50th Infantry at Fort Hood Texas.
