45th President's commitment to our military

Postby Jim Sheppard » Sat Jan 21, 2017 2:12 pm

Folks,

Regardless of your political view, and regardless of your personal opinions of our latest Commander-in-Chief, I post this from the new White House Website as it pertains to both us veterans and today's military. We may not endorse all of the president's policies, but I think as men who know the importance of a solid, well trained and well equipped US fighting force...we find this stated point of view reassuring:

Making Our Military Strong Again

Our men and women in uniform are the greatest fighting force in the world and the guardians of American freedom. That’s why the Trump Administration will rebuild our military and do everything it can to make sure our veterans get the care they deserve.

Our military needs every asset at its disposal to defend America. We cannot allow other nations to surpass our military capability. The Trump Administration will pursue the highest level of military readiness.
President Trump will end the defense sequester and submit a new budget to Congress outlining a plan to rebuild our military. We will provide our military leaders with the means to plan for our future defense needs.
We will also develop a state-of-the-art missile defense system to protect against missile-based attacks from states like Iran and North Korea.

Cyberwarfare is an emerging battlefield, and we must take every measure to safeguard our national security secrets and systems. We will make it a priority to develop defensive and offensive cyber capabilities at our U.S. Cyber Command, and recruit the best and brightest Americans to serve in this crucial area.

Let us never forget that our military is comprised of heroic people. We must also ensure that we have the best medical care, education and support for our military service members and their families – both when they serve, and when they return to civilian life.

We will get our veterans the care they need wherever and whenever they need it. There should be no more long drives. No more wait lists or scheduling backlogs. No more excessive red tape. Just the care and support our veterans have earned through sacrifice and service to our country. The Trump Administration will transform the Department of Veterans Affairs to meet the needs of 21st century service members and of our female veterans. Our reforms will begin with firing the corrupt and incompetent VA executives who let our veterans down, modernizing the bureaucracy, and empowering the doctors and nurses to ensure our veterans receive the best care available in a timely manner.
Under the Trump Administration, America will meet its commitments to our veterans.

Realizing many of you may not be aware, I thought I would add some background to my personal relationship with the new President of the US.

I worked for several entities of the Trump organization from July of 1987 until March of 2000. This time spam encompassed both good and bad times for Donald Trump, his family and the businesses he owned which were my employers. My position was as a Chauffeur in the limousine departments of the former Trump Castle Casino Hotel, Trump Plaza Casino Hotel and the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Hotel, all in Atlantic City, New Jersey. These limousine departments operated with from 12 to 60 "Stretch" limousines and a staff of from 30 to 100+ chauffeurs and supervisors. Our Limousine duties were primarily to function as 1st class drivers for the "high roller" clientele of these Trump properties, but we also were charged with the safe transportation of the many entertainers and celebrities who were, in one way or another, involved with Donald Trump and/or his Casino Hotels.

As part of our responsibilities, we were all called upon to transport members of the Trump Family. I personally was selected for this "Trump Duty" and many occasions....and have had experiences with nearly all of the Trump family members.

On a few occasions, I dealt with "Mr Trump" alone. If I may be so bold as to "pat myself on the back"...Donald Trump once spoke of me (within my earshot) saying "We like this guy". Something one always likes to hear from his boss...but something that now holds a special meaning in my life.

I state the above not as an endorsement, nor as a claim to know the man and his family personally, but simply in the hope you will understand that I have an interest in this latest president that has some background that many persons do not have.

I have always espoused that our website should not take political sides. To do so, would obviously alienate a large number of our membership. I am NOT saying we can have no political opinion. We all know that our service to our country was to protect our right to political opinion with impunity...but the suggestion is that we have a desire to be a brotherhood which strives for a unity that transcends political difference.

I want you all to know I am giving serious consideration to inviting President Trump to speak at our 2019 Reunion. The chances he would be able to honor my request are "slim" at best, but I may have a slight "edge" having worked closely with him and his family for that 13 year span.

Your Historian,

Jim Sheppard

If you could get a sitting president to come to our reunion it would be a long shot at best Jim but I for one would certainly listen to what he had say. Good Luck and I hope the military and veterans are benefited by his future actions and those of Congress and the Senate.
